Time to open
Both apps, launched from a click. This replays the measured times at real speed.

Why Spotify's app is so heavy
Spotify's desktop app is built on a web browser engine. That's why Task Manager shows it as seven programs working together, and why it needs over a gigabyte of memory just to sit there.
Why Lightify isn't
Lightify is written as a native Windows program, with no browser hidden inside, and the part that plays your music runs in that same small program. It also does less on purpose: it plays your library and leaves the podcast storefront to Spotify.
How we measured: Lightify 2.1.3 and Spotify 1.2.99.317 on the same Windows 11 desktop (20-thread CPU), 25 September 2026, each app launched three times with nothing else open. "Time to open" is from launch until the app's window appears, averaged. Memory is the total in use across all of an app's programs after its library loaded. CPU is the average while sitting idle for 30 seconds with nothing playing. Your numbers will vary with your hardware and library.

Lightify handles the listening itself — your playlists, your queue, search, and Windows' own media controls — without the weight.
- Plays on its ownLightify is its own speaker in Spotify Connect. Spotify's app doesn't need to be open.
- Your whole libraryPlaylists with their covers and Liked Songs. Search puts the top result first, then songs, artists, albums and playlists, all with artwork. Start typing to filter any list.
- A queue you can trustShows what will really play next, in the order you see it, remembers it after a restart, and offers to pick up where you left off.
- Feels like WindowsTrack and cover in Windows' media controls and on the lock screen, play and skip from the taskbar preview, your keyboard's media keys, mini-player sizes and a tray icon.
- Beatport chartsBrowse the charts by genre and play the matches from your Spotify library.

Lightify's original project code is released for noncommercial use under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. You can use it, share it, and edit it for noncommercial purposes, but you cannot sell it or use it to make money. Third-party components keep their own licenses.
